Filey Bay Virgin Oak Single Cask 3020 Yorkshire Single Malt Whisky 60.1% Alc 700ml
Filey Bay Virgin Oak Single Cask 3020 Yorkshire Single Malt Whisky 60.1% Alc 700ml
Filey Bay Virgin Oak Single Cask #3020 is a rare cask strength release from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery a farm distillery perched on the rugged northeast coast of England in Hunmanby. Distilled in March 2018 and aged for over five years in virgin oak, this single cask was hand-selected for the US market by importer ImpEx Beverages and bottled without compromise at a commanding 60.1% ABV.
Virgin oak is one of whisky's most unforgiving and rewarding cask types. With no previous spirit to soften its edges, the wood gives everything it has directly to the distillate: bold tannins, deep spice, layers of caramel and tropical fruit, all wrapped in the signature light and fruity character that defines Filey Bay's house style. The result is a whisky of remarkable intensity and depth, where the vivid fruitiness of Yorkshire barley holds its own against the powerful influence of new oak.
This is also a true field-to-bottle whisky. The barley is grown on the distillery's own farm, floor malted on-site, and double distilled in a custom copper pot/column hybrid still. Every bottle traces its story back to a single field in Yorkshire and in this case, a single cask.
Non chill-filtered. No added color. Nothing hidden.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Candied orange, vanilla wafer, toasted oak, ripe banana, ground hazelnut, gentle peppercorn
- Palate: Crème brûlée, pineapple, banana bread, maple syrup, walnut, citrus zest, warming oak spice
- Finish: Long and bold — oak tannins, dried orange peel, lingering tropical sweetness and pepper heat
